1. Metrics on Studies found (metadata)

The year of publication shows a recent trend in work on decarbonization for the cement sector, as 31 studies are from 2018 to 2021, and the oldest study is from 2013 (see Figure A .1).

Studies reviewed have been focused on actions to reduce emissions, and less so on barriers to overcome or policy actions that could promote the adoption of emissions reduction measures (see Figure A .2).

Developed countries have produced more literature on cement decarbonization, but most studies don’t explicitly address a geographical scope (see Figure A .3). Most lessons from cement decarbonization can be applied worldwide.

Regarding the content of the studies reviewed (see Figure A .4), 34 proposed measures to reduce GHG emissions, 29 identified barriers, and 28 recommended policy actions. A total of 20 studies contain all three components in their analysis.

An analysis on the most common words presented in the title of the studies reviewed reveals that the most frequent words are: cement, industry, concrete and decarbonization (see Figure A .5). This result is not surprising and is coherent with the specific method and keywords used to search, filter, and select the articles to include in this review.
