Message from the Chair
Hello from Linda
Brrr, cold, I hope you all have been able to stay warm and dry and not blow away with some of the weather we’ve had lately. When out, I have been able to dodge most of the wet weather.
During the school holidays I was able to enjoy some time with the grandchildren, Tabitha and twins Kayla and Brittany. Went to Dunkley’s Craft Show and made cards and a fantail paua mosaic. It was a good me day. I also managed to fit in a special 50th birthday party.
Brenda has advised that the movie for the fundraiser has been decided and that is “Magic in the Moonlight” starring Colin Firth. We have got a booking for one theatre on opening night Thursday 28 August 2014 at the 6.15pm showing. The only other option was 8.30pm which seems to be a tad late for everyone. There will be 60 seats to cover so everyone has to get selling so we can make it a success for a great cause.
Something else to remember is the Regional Meeting which is Saturday 30 August, just a couple of days after the movie. Mana Club is the host this year and it is being held in Otaki so that those coming out of town don’t have quite so far to travel. We will need a couple of volunteers to help in the kitchen with morning and afternoon teas and lunch and those that volunteer will not be paying registration fees. We will talk about that and car pooling to get members up there at our meeting in August.
Look forward to catching up again soon
Linda

MOVIE FUNDRAISER
“MAGIC IN MOONLIGHT”
Light House Pauatahanui 6:15
Woody Allen's 47th film as director, Magic in the Moonlight is a romantic comedy about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle, but personal and professional complications ensue...
Chinese conjuror Wei Ling Soo is the most celebrated magician of his age, but few know that he is the stage persona of Stanley Crawford (Colin Firth), a grouchy and arrogant Englishman with a sky-high opinion of himself and an aversion to phony spiritualists' claims. Persuaded by his friend, Howard Burkan (Simon McBurney), Stanley goes on a mission to the Côte d'Azur mansion of the Catledge family: mother Grace (Jacki Weaver), son Brice (Hamish Linklater), and daughter Caroline (Erica Leerhsen). He presents himself as a businessman named Stanley Taplinger in order to debunk the alluring young clairvoyant Sophie Baker (Emma Stone) who is staying there with her mother (Marcia Gay Harden). Sophie arrived at the Catledge villa at the invitation of Grace, who is convinced that Sophie can help her contact her late husband, and once there, attracted the attention of Brice, who has fallen for her head over heels. What follows is a series of events that are magical in every sense of the word and send the characters reeling. In the end, the biggest trick Magic in the Moonlight plays is the one that fools us all.
