Methane (СН₄) — A hydrocarbon that is a greenhouse gas produced through anaerobik (without oxygen) decomposition of waste in landfills, animal digestion, dekomposition of animal wastes, production and distbution of natural gas and oil, coal production, and incomlete fossil­ful combustion. Methane is one of the six greenhouse gases to mitigated under the Kyoto Protocol.
