UNIT 2.1: Scope/Freight Order Booking & Processing 
Unit Objectives 
At the end of this unit, one will be able to:
1.
Discuss the scope of consignment booking & processing.

Explain the process of booking freight from customers & obtaining orders through email or 
telephone calls. 
2.1.1 What is Consignment Booking & Processing? 
Consignment booking & processing refers to the process of understanding the load (volume, number 
of packages, dimensions etc.) weight, location of origin & destination, type of material and matching 
the same with the right vehicle/carrier/body, to ensure an optimum freight for the goods for its 
movement from the origin to destination. It also covers the regulatory compliances of the vehicle to 
the transportation requirements. It usually involves the preparation of documents such as Lorry 
Receipt (LR), marine insurance document, GST related E-Way Bills, proof of delivery document etc. It 
also covers the recording of all data in the ERP System for en route tracing and providing alerts to all 
the required stakeholders. It also includes the processing of all inbound documentation & agreement 
sheet for the vehicle that reports. An associate has to be in regular touch with all his customers and 
transporters. 
Freight orders are usually booked through face to face contact; telephone calls & Email 
communication with customers who provide the goods 
In other words,
Organize all transportation activities, including storage of goods, managing information accrued from 
Say the Point of origin to delivery, orchestrating transportation movements, & arranging for services 
as may be necessary. Finally coordinate and track the movement of goods through the 
entire logistic pathways.
