The international judo Federation UJN was founded in 1951 and now consists of 187 National Federations (2002). It has been in the Olympic program since 1964 (except 1968). Judo was originated from jiu-jitsu, which grips came from Japan to China. The founder of Judo was an outstanding Japanese educator, enlightener and coach Jigoro Kano (1860 -1938)
"Judo is the way to the most effective method of using body and spirit. The essence of Judo is in the comprehension of the art to attack and defend oneself by the means of tenacious training tempering body and soul," wrote Jigoro Kano, expressing the main idea of his system of bringing up.
Jigoro Kano insisted that everyone who wanted to join "Kodsjan" had to make solemn vow, consisting of the following points:
1. Once I decided to devote myself to Judo I will never drop training without any serious reasons.
2. I promise not to demean "Dojo" by my behavior.
3. I will never betray a secret to the uninitiated and will take lessons at other place only at a pinch.
4. I promise not to give lessons without my teacher's permission.
5. I vow during my whole life to respect the "Kodokan" rules now as a learner and then as a teacher if I become him.
