Lesson 3. Classical music. Figurative language

The aim of the lesson:

Developing: - Speaking and reading skills;

- What is music and its types;

- Using figurative language: metaphor and simile

- Encourage learners to use English creatively

- To learn how to use figurative language when writing poetry.

Type of the lesson: -brainstorming, non-standart, speaking, listening, reading, mixed.



Method of the lesson: - group work, pair work.

Equipment: blackboard, printed pictures, handouts, videos

The procedure of the lesson:

I.Organizasional moment: - Greeting, introduce yourself. 3 min

- meet pupil



II. Pre-Activity Warming up. 5 min

What was the last music you heard? And what it was about?

Checking homework 7 min.

Activity 7, on page 54.

Activity 1. What kind of music do you know? 5 min

Video (kind of music)



Objectives: to communicate with pupils.

Step 1: Ask them about music and its types.

III. Main Part

Activity 2 Work with class. Discuss about songs, its poems. 8- min

Objectives: Discuss with students figurative language.

Step 1: Discuss one song. Find out figurative language.

Step 2: What is figurative language?

Activity 3. Watching the video. 10 min (computer)

Learn difference between metaphor and simile



Activity 4 Pair work. Exersicion – worksheet 6 min

Objectives: work with handouts.

Step 1: differentiate types of figurative language

IV. Homework. 2 min.

Find out examples of figurative language from music.
