Functional stylistics. 
Special mention should be made of functional stylistics 
which is a branch of lingua-stylistics that investigates functional styles, that is 
special sublanguages or varieties of the national language such as 1) the belles-lettres 
style; 2) the publicist style; 3) the newspaper style; 4) the scientific prose style; 5) 
the style of official documents. 
 Stylistic lexicology 
deals with the study of special vocabulary which helps 
the writer to create specific stylistic coloring in a text with the help of literary and 
colloquial vocabulary. Literary vocabulary includes bookish words, terms, poetic 
and archaic words, barbarisms and neologisms. Colloquial vocabulary embraces 
conversational lexis, jargonisms, professionalisms, dialectal, slangy and vulgar 
words. 
Stylistic Phonetics
is engaged in the study of style-forming phonetic features 
of the text. It describes the prosodic features of prose and poetry and variants of 
pronunciation in different types of speech (colloquial or oratory or recital). 
Stylistic Syntax
is one of the oldest branches of stylistic studies that grew out 
of classical rhetoric. Stylistic syntax has to do with the expressive order of words, 
types of syntactic links (asyndeton, polysyndeton), figures of speech (antithesis, 
chiasmus, etc.). It also deals with bigger units from paragraph onwards. 
Stylistic Semasiology 
is a branch of stylistics which investigates stylistic 
phenomena in the sphere of semantics, i.e. in the sphere of meanings, regardless of 
the form of linguistic units. As distinct from stylistic lexicology or stylistic syntax 
which deal with words and sentences, stylistic semasiology makes meaning the 
object of its investigation. Concern of stylistic semasiology it is not so much the 
meaning itself that is investigated but the rules and laws of shifts of meanings, the 
patterns according to which meaning are shifted or either various combinations thus 
producing a certain stylistic effect. It also studies stylistic functions of shifts of 
meanings and of certain combinations of meanings.
