Activities 1b.
Objective: to practice listening for detailed information to check predictions. Play the tape. Pupils listen to check whether their answers were right. Tell pupils that they will hear a conversation with a member of the Senate Mr. John Tolbertson talking about the State Structure of the USA.

Activity 1c
Objective: to practice describing the structure of the government using the Present Simple Passive. Ask pupils to copy and complete the sentences with the correct form of the Present Simple Passive. Ask them to translate the sentences.
