Nash attended kindergarten and public school and studied from books provided by his parents and grandparents[15]. He was not particularly successful, and he did not like mathematics at all — it was boring to teach it at school. When Nash was 14 years old, Eric T. Bell's book "The Creators of Mathematics" fell into his hands. "After reading this book, I was able to prove Fermat's small theorem myself, without outside help," Nash wrote in his autobiography.

At Princeton, John Nash heard about game theory, at that time only presented by John von Neumann and Oscar Morgenstern. Game theory interested Nash, and at the age of 20 he was able to create the foundations of a scientific method that played a huge role in the development of the world economy. In 1949, a 21-year-old scientist wrote a dissertation on game theory. Forty-five years later, he received the Nobel Prize in Economics for this work "for the fundamental analysis of equilibrium in the theory of non-cooperative games."

John Nash died on May 23, 2015 (at the age of 87) together with his wife, Alicia Nash (she was 82 years old), in a car accident in New Jersey[31]. The taxi driver, in which the couple were traveling, lost control while overtaking and crashed into the separation barrier. Both unbuttoned passengers were thrown out on impact, and the doctors who arrived pronounced them dead at the scene.
