In the bottom of the Earth more often the seams of oily dark brown liquid are placed. Oil usually lies thousands of feet below the earth’s surface. Many millions of years the proceeding at it from decomposing in special physical and chemical conditions remains of plants and organisms was going on. This is the oil, which is often called a black gold. Without petrol commerce industry would soon come to a standstill. Traffic in our great cities would stop. Millions of workers are unable to get to or from their work. You can’t move in airplane, ship or a car without petroleum. We can’t imagine modern life without petroleum.

Petroleum is the name of the mineral oil. It comes from under the ground. From which petrol is obtained. It is the crude oil. Petroleum comes from the wells. From these crude oil we obtain the various fuels. These fuels drive ships, aircrafts and many forms of land transport.

There are many ways of discovering this underground oil. It is called a borehole. Many oil fields are hundreds of miles from the sea. As petroleum is need in all parts of the world. It has to be transported across the oceans. It is carried from oilfields to the sea in pipe-lines. It may go for very large distances. Crude oil contains many different materials. From crude oil we obtain petrol, paraffin and other products.

The oil fuel is used in diesel engines. It is much cheaper than petrol. Other products obtained from petroleum.

They are used in the manufacture of artificial rubber, asphalt for road surfaces, light machine oil and heavy engine oil.
