Liveware - environment (person - external environment - internal environment)

• Liveware - environment (L – E). This type of interface covers the relationship between a person and the internal and external environment. The internal production environment includes physical parameters such as air temperature, lighting, noise level, vibration, and air quality. The external environment includes aspects such as visibility, turbulence and terrain. The working conditions of aviation (round-the-clock - 7 days a week) are associated with the violation of normal biological rhythms, such as sleep. In addition, the aviation system operates under a large number of political and economic constraints, which in turn have an impact on the general situation in a given organization. This may include factors such as the adequacy of physical means and supporting infrastructure, the local financial situation and the effectiveness of regulation. To the same extent as a direct production environment can create tense situations that force one to choose the shortest path, inadequate supporting infrastructure can jeopardize the quality of decisions made.

Care must be taken to ensure that operational errors do not “leak through cracks” at the interfaces. In most cases, the problem of “roughness” of these interfaces can be eliminated, for example:

• the designer can ensure the reliability of this equipment in the specified operating conditions;

• during the certification process, the regulatory body has the opportunity to establish the real conditions under which this equipment can be used;

• management of the organization can develop standard operating rules (SOR) and provide initial training and regular retraining for the safe use of this equipment;

• each equipment operator can study this equipment and ensure its reliable use in a safe manner under any necessary operating conditions.
