The meaning of the "real sector of the economy"

• The concept of the "real sector of the economy" is not new. In particular, the term "sector" in dictionary sources is explained as follows: from Latin, sector - which cuts through - this is a department of an institution that has some specialization; some part of the national economy. ”In the most general view, the real sector of the economy appears as a combination of sectors of the economy that produce tangible and intangible goods and services, with the exception of operations related to the financial sector of the economy. This term does not have a clear legislative definition. It is often used in political vocabulary and journalism without specifying the meaning. The beginning of active use dates back to about 1998.

The meaning of the "real sector of the economy"

• Characterizing the essence of the concept of the real sector of the economy, it should be noted its close relationship with the industries of the sphere of material production.
• Along with this, there are other concepts that identify the "real sector of the economy" with the concept of "sphere of production of goods." However, material production does not fully comply with the term “real economy”, since it does not include trade and intermediary services. In the large economic dictionary, “real” means “existing in reality”, and service industries really exist, therefore, it is legitimate to attribute them to the real sector.

The structure of the real sector of the economy

• In this regard, it seems appropriate to include such concepts as “tangible (material) production” and “intangible production”, “tangible (material) services” and “intangible services” in the real sector of the economy.
