A chapter on “Urban geography” and “Fear” = Geography of fear
The geography of fear has mainly been studied by feminist geographers. The original text of the article contains a list of feminist geographers. For example, for most people, fear shapes their everyday geography through their “mind maps”.

How can you travel in areas known or perceived to have high crime rates?
So, “fear of the city” can be seen as a force that prevents safe and free movement in everyday life.
For example, in some cities or certain parts of a city, people hesitate to go shopping, to theatres, pubs, or to sporting events. Because they care about their personal safety. This is real in the world!
According to Kilian, the feeling of fear and security changes depending on the social and spatial position of a person. So, in the geography of fear, the area that makes a significant contribution to ensuring security in the city comes to the fore. The geography of fear accepts social markers such as age, class, gender, or race as research categories. It plays a role in the development of sound solutions.
Then, there is also a political benefit of fear, the authors say. That is, fear can be used for certain purposes. For example, according to one researcher, the policy of “getting people off the street” was used under the term “speech of fear”. In other words, such policies were used to influence people on government policy, city development, and keeping public spaces comfortable.
So, urban geography studies these situations as well. Personal-emotional landscapes and pathways of individuals will be the object of research. The urban geography of fear plays an important role in investigating the variable limitations between order and disorder, urban living, and urban construction. Overall, geographies of urban fear are used to reduce and explain extreme worries that prevent certain types of cities from emerging.
