Introduction to Urban geography

One of the feminist geographers, Leslie Kern, has investigated the use of fear in an advertisement for a condominium (house) in Ontario (Canada). She argues that the relationship between feminist geography and urban geography can be outlined as the tension (pressure) between fear and freedom.
Nick Schuermans and Philip De Messchalk are among the recent contributors to the analysis of how fear is used as a political tool. In Belgium, the success of racialized strangers in dangerous urban centers was investigated by Schuermans and De Messhalk. At the same time, the authors of this article reveal the interconnection of racist spatial imaginaries and political mobilizations.
In his essay “Fearing in Dubai”, Benjamin Smith explores the complex geography of fears that converge with Dubai’s many and varied illusions, insecurities, and contradictions. Jeff May encourages us to think about “scary cities” in terms of their portrayal in zombie movies.
In conclusion, the authors cited in the article’s analysis address contemporary and controversial topics by examining fear's economic, political, social, and cultural foundations and consequences.
At the same time, more critical investigations of fear and urban lighting, how fear is mobilized and understood, were analyzed.
