7.5   Programming According to the IEC 61131-3 Standard

In this section, detailed focus will be provided to all the instructions of Table 7.1, by present-

ing a specific way of how to utilize these instructions to program simple automation functions 

according to the IEC 61131-3 standard. These simple automation functions are small examples 

from industrial practice and, in any case, are not complete applications. However, large integrated 

applications consist of a large number of such simple and small automations and in many combi-

nations, and thus it is important to know how to program all these simple automation functions 

rather than to know two or three large industrial applications. Some more integrated industrial 

applications of automation are presented in Chapter 10. In addition to the instructions of Table 

7.1, some further instructions will also be presented that are relatively useful when the utilized 

PLC supports them.
