development of critical realism

The aim of the course work. This course work aims at analyzing the works and authors who worked in the realism in American literature. The movement arose as a rejection of the romantic movement that preceded it. Whereas the romantics celebrated spontaneous thought, emotions, and expressiveness, realists sought to depict the problems that ordinary men and women faced in daily life. Literary realism originated as part of a broader art movement in France in the mid-eighteenth century, where artists attempted to depict their subject matter realistically in response to the prevalence of romanticist art throughout the early eighteenth century. This was mirrored in French literature when authors like Gustave Flaubert (1821-1880) and Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850) produced works with intricate characterisation, dialogue, and observations about French society. The movement then spread to Europe, Australia and the United States of America.
The practical value of the course work. The artists and writers associated with this movement were more interested in depicting everyday life in New York City than they were in displaying the wealth and prestige of the upper classes or natural landscapes. They wanted to define what was real about American life not what viewers would prefer to look at. This meant focusing on everyday scenes and darker ones, like views of the homeless, alleys, and more. American realism was a style of painting, writing, and music that was popular during the 20th century. The authors who wrote during this period, like Mark Twain, were interested in depicting the world as it was, not as one might like it to be. They were interested in the urban, mundane, and every day and were able to find beauty and meaning in those settings. For writers like Twain, this was more than a style, it was a way of understanding the world and pushing aside worn-out images of what America was and instead show the beauty and difficulty of what it is.
The structure of the course work. In this course paper, I will explain a brief overview about the start of realism in American literature and culture. Then I will write about the characteristics of the period and finally some of the writers in the Realism period. The paper consists of an introduction, two main chapters and sub branches and conclusion.
