Basic Principles.
IPT is based on a few key ideas:
1.
PTSD is a medical illness.
It is not your fault, not something you
brought upon yourself. It is not who you are, not a flaw in your
character. And, although you may feel hopeless about getting
better at times, PTSD is
treatable
. There is a good chance that you
may feel much better as treatment proceeds. In our initial study,
all patients showed some improvement, more than 80% got much
better, and 44% had essentially no remaining symptoms (reached
remission). So there is real hope.
