INTERNATIONAL AGREEMENT

ON JOINT SUPERVISION OF DOCTORAL THESIS

In accordance with the following positive regulations of the Republic of Serbia in the subject area:

- The Law on Higher Education ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia ", no. 76/2005, 100/2007 - the authentic interpretation, 97/2008, 44/2010, 93/2012, 89/2013, 99/2014, 45/2015 – authentic interpretation and 68/2015)

- The Statute of the University of Belgrade (The Gazette of the University of Belgrade 186/15 – revised text and 189/16),

- The Regulations on doctoral studies organized and performed by the University of Belgrade (26.10.2012, The Gazette of the University of Belgrade, 155).

In accordance with the following positive regulations of « _____ » :

the University of Belgrade with its seat at Studentski trg 1, 11000 Belgrade, the Republic of Serbia, represented by its Rector, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Bumbaširević, hereinafter referred to as “UB”

and
the University of ______ with its seat at……, represented by its Rector/President/Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. ______, hereinafter referred to as “_____ ”
motivated by a mutual desire to develop international cooperation through doctoral students’ mobility, have agreed upon the following:

ARTICLE 1
UB and “...” (hereinafter referred to as “Partner Universities”) have agreed, in accordance with the legal regulations in effect in each respective country, to prepare a doctoral thesis under joint supervision of _______(name of the student of doctoral studies), born in ________(place of birth), on ________(date of birth), hereinafter referred to as the „ Candidate“, as of academic ____/____ for the period of ___ year(s) (state the period for which the agreement will be valid), which may be extended by signing an annex to this agreement.
ARTICLE 2
The title of the doctoral thesis is: „______________________“.
ARTICLE 3
The Candidate has enrolled into the UB at the doctoral study program …….. , taught at the University of Belgrade – Faculty of …….., in the academic ____/____ year, with the expected program duration until the end of the academic ____/____ year.
The Candidate has enrolled into the .…. (partner university) at the doctoral study program “……..”, taught at the …….., (faculty/doctoral school of the partner university) in the academic ____/____ year, with the expected program duration until the end of the academic ____/____ year.
The expected duration of the academic doctoral studies is three (3) years. This period may be extended at the request of the Candidate in required situations, upon receiving the approval of both Partner universities, in accordance with each university’s policy, respectively. The request must be submitted to both Partner universities at least six months prior to the expiration of the abovementioned deadline for completion of the doctoral thesis.

ARTICLE 4
Upon receiving the approval of relevant bodies and in accordance with the Regulations on doctoral studies which are in effect at each of the Partner Universities respectively, the Candidate shall be enrolled into both Partner Universities each academic year. Otherwise, this Agreement shall be terminated immediately.
The Candidate shall have the following status at the UB ________________ (student who is funded from the budget of the Republic of Serbia / self-funded student). If the Candidate has the status of a self-funded student at the UB, all expenses for the entire duration of the doctoral studies program shall be ______________ (covered by the Candidate / covered by ________________).
At all expenses related to the doctoral studies program at University _________, shall be ________________ (covered by the Candidate / covered by ________________).
ARTICLE 5
The research shall be carried out at both Partner Universities respecting the calendar enclosed (Appendix 1), which, as an integral part of this agreement, has been signed and thus agreed upon by both thesis advisors.
All changes to the calendar, referred to in Paragraph 1 of this Article, must be submitted to both Partner Universities at least 30 days in advance and signed by both thesis advisors.
The Candidate’s period of stay at either Partner University shall be in compliance with the regulations in effect at the Partner University in question.
Upon the completion of a designated study period at one of the Partner Universities, the thesis advisor at the Partner University shall draw up an academic achievement report for the said period and sign it; the Partner University shall stamp the report and forward it to the other Partner University.

ARTICLE 6
The Candidate shall work on the doctoral thesis under the supervision and the responsibility of the following advisors:

The aforementioned thesis advisors accept to guide the Candidate in the course of his/her research work and during his/her work on the doctoral thesis itself.

The scope of the thesis advisor’s activities is determined by the rules and regulations in effect at each of the Partner Universities respectively.
ARTICLE 7
Тhe cost of accommodation, subsistence, other costs related to the Candidate’s stay, travel and transportation, health insurance and other compulsory insurance related to his/her stay at a Partner University shall be covered in the following manner:
In the Republic of Serbia, for the period of the duration of the doctoral studies at UB, the Candidate shall fund the cost of accommodation, travel and transportation, subsistence and other stay-related costs from ___________________.

In ____________ (name of the country of the Partner University), for the period of the duration of the doctoral studies at “ “ (University), the Candidate shall fund the cost of accommodation, travel and transportation, subsistence and other stay-related costs from ___________________.

In the Republic of Serbia, the Candidate must possess a compulsory medical insurance for the period of the duration of the doctoral studies, the expenses of which shall be covered from ____________________.

In ____________ (name of the country of the Partner University) the Candidate must possess a compulsory medical insurance for the period of the duration of the doctoral studies, the expenses of which shall be covered from ____________________.

ARTICLE 8
In order to be able to defend his/her doctoral thesis, the Candidate shall have to fulfil all the conditions prescribed by the positive legislation at each of the Partner Universities on the subject matter.

ARTICLE 9

The doctoral thesis shall be defended once at the University of _________________.

The doctoral thesis shall be written in the _______________ language, and the defense presented in the ____________ language.
If the doctoral thesis is written in the foreign language, it must have an extensive written abstract in the Serbian language.
If the doctoral thesis is defended in the foreign language, in the course of the defense, an extensive abstract must be presented orally in the Serbian language.
ARTICLE 10
A Committee for evaluation and defense of the doctoral thesis (hereinafter referred to as: the “Committee”) must be formed on the basis of parity and consist of at least 6 (six), and at most 10 (ten) members, representing both Partner Universities. The Committee shall have __________ (number) of member(s) of UB and _______ (number) of member(s) of __________.
Travel expenses of the Committee members shall be covered by ___________________.

ARTICLE 11
The report of the Committee shall be written in ____________ and in Serbian, signed by all Committee members and sent to both Partner Universities. The report shall enable the assessment of the Candidate’s capacity to present his/her work and show that he/she acquired the skills necessary for the topic of the research.
After the Candidate has successfully defended the thesis in the final examination and after the Committee has given the thesis a passing mark in its report, the Candidate shall be awarded the title of a “doctor of philosophy” at the University ____________ and a “doctor of philosophy” ____________ at the University of Belgrade.
Two diplomas will be issued to the Candidate. Each Partner University shall issue a diploma respectively.
ARTICLE 12
The Candidate must abide by the positive legislation of both Partner Universities regarding the submission, preparation and the defense of the doctoral thesis.
ARTICLE 13
Intellectual property rights arising from the doctoral thesis, as well as publishing, application and legal protection of joint results of research shall be regulated in accordance with the regulations in effect at both Partner Universities.
ARTICLE 14
This agreement shall come into effect on the date of its signature.
This agreement shall remain in force for a period of three (3) years and may be extended following the rules referred to in Article 3 of this Agreement.

ARTICLE 15
This agreement has been drawn in twenty-one (21) originals, seven (7) in Serbian, seven (7) in ……. and seven (7) in English, all texts being equally valid. Each signatory shall retain a copy of the agreement in each language version.
