Adoption of the Declaration of Independence. On June 20, 1990, the second session of the Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek SSR adopted the Declaration of Independence of the Uzbek SSR. The words of the Declaration of Independence "Deeply aware of the historical responsibility for the fate of the people of Uzbekistan, based on international legal norms, universal values and principles of democracy", reflected the first steps on the path to independence. The Supreme Soviet of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic proclaims the state sovereignty of the Uzbek SSR. The adoption of this Declaration marked the beginning of a new stage in the struggle for independence of Uzbekistan. The deputies of the Supreme Council of the Republic were very active in the adoption of this document of national significance. The deputies adopted the Declaration of Independence article by article, repeatedly emphasizing that each nation has the right to choose its own fate. It was explained that the rich historical experience and traditions of state building and cultural development accumulated by the Uzbek people over the centuries.
