INTRODUCTION (abstract of PhD thesis)


The purpose of the research is to reveal the essence and content of socio-economic and cultural life in Samarkand Region between 1925-1941.
The object of the research is to enlight the socio-economic and cultural life of the Soviet period in Samarkand region.
The scientific novelty of the research is as follows:
it has been established that in 1925-1930, when Samarkand became the capital, political and administrative center of the Republic, although it served to improve the social situation of the local population through the Soviet government's social changes aimed at improving housing and communal problems, after the transfer of the capital, these problems remained without attention;
it has been demonstrated that while industrialization policy implemented by the former Soviet government, in the process of organizing of new industries and industrial centers, handicraft played an important role, as a result the unification of handicraft in cooperation and artel, partial providing of new equipment in the growth of the gross product in the 1930s, an important place was occupied by artisans;
it has been revealed that in the Samarkand region there was a Commission on "verification of political purity" of students of universities, which was engaged in "identification" of students of non-working social origin belonging to the propertied class, and their expulsion from higher educational institutions. This meant that the focus of the education system was not on learning, but on limiting the rights of students of suspicious social origin;
it has been revealed that the activities carried out in Samarkand during the period of the "Khujum" movement to strengthen the socio-political activity of women, in particular, socialist competitions held in national and regional levels aiming the abolition of veil on wemen's face led to contradictory situations in the way of life of the population, in family and marital relations.
