To study industrial noise, special devices are used - sound level meters and
analyzers of the spectral frequency composition of noise of various brands. Intense
noise causes the onset of fatigue, which often turns into overwork, which leads to a
decrease in labor productivity, contributes to an increase in both general and
occupational morbidity. Noise, to one degree or another, reduces human productivity,
reduces the accuracy of work, and makes it difficult to receive and perceive
information. Research shows that the degree to which noise can reduce productivity
depends on the nature of the work being performed. The more elements of mental
tension in the work, the stronger the effect of noise on labor productivity.
Numerous experimental studies of the state of the organ of hearing have
established that with an increase in sound pressure, a mechanical and even traumatic
damaging effect of noise occurs, destruction of the cochlear apparatus. The impact of
noise is aggravated by accompanying production factors (chemical, etc.), especially
the simultaneous impact of vibration, the severity and intensity of labor. The effect of
noise on the body depends on the past diseases (infections, intoxications), on the
intake of drugs with toxic effects, on the individual, constitutional characteristics of
the organism.
The pitch is determined by the vibration frequency - the higher the vibration
frequency, the higher the sound is heard. The sensitivity of the human ear to sounds
of different frequencies is not the same. The ear is more receptive to high tones than
low tones. Therefore, when assessing the harmful effects of noise and developing
measures to combat it, efforts should first of all be directed at eliminating high-
frequency noise.
Below are the data characterizing the noise indicators of the main production
premises of silk-spinning industries. Operating production equipment generates noise
in the workplace, which is of a constant nature, belongs to the medium-frequency
class.
In the silk-spinning production at the brew house, the noise source is the drying
chamber and the cocoon-cutting machine, the total noise level is 87 dB. In the
preparation area, noise sources are loosening, scutching, belt, combing and roving
machines, the total noise level is 86 dB. At the spinning section, the noise source is
spinning machines, the total noise level is 88dB, on the backup section - duplicating
machines, the total noise level is 84 dB, on the twisting section - twisting machines,
the total noise level is 94 dB, on the winding section - winding machines 86 dB, on
the singing section - gas scorching equipment (gas burners) - 93 dB. Thus, the
analysis of data on the acoustic characteristics of the working conditions of women in
the main professional groups of silk-spinning industries showed that one of the more
significant unfavorable production factors is noise, the overall level of which at
various workplaces exceeds the maximum permissible level from 3 to 7 dB.
