Sentence Structures

Every sentence has its own purpose.
Treat each sentence like 
GOLD
: there should be no useless
sentences in your essay 
Plan your sentences: you need to make sure every piece of your
essay fits together
Be concise: don’t fall into the trap of trying to make every sentence
longer and more complicated just to fill space.
Write your essay like a human being is going to read it!

Paragraph Structures
 
A paragraph normally has three parts:
1. One sentence to introduce the general topic we will write about in
the paragraph (you also normally need to link the first sentence to
the previous paragraph).
2. Two or three sentences that develop the topic in more detail. In the
IELTS exam, you usually need to include evidence, examples, and
details about the topic or argument.
3. A concluding sentence that either finishes the topic (or links it to the
next paragraph).

Understanding the Topic and the Task
Make sure you understand what the topic or subject of questions is.
Underline the keywords if necessary.
Read the questions carefully to identify exactly what you need to.
Focus on the question itself, not on what you want to write about.
There usually are three ways the essay can be presented in
the exam. Let’s take the example of space exploration: 
Type 1: Two 
opposite views
to discuss:
“Some people believe that more funds should be invested in
space exploration, as it is a vital form of investigation for the future
of humanity. In contrast, others believe it is a waste of vital funding
that could otherwise be used towards more essential projects here on
earth. “ 
Type 2: “Two 
opposite views
to discuss using the
word 
should
in the instruction.
“Should more money be invested into space exploration, or
should it be used towards more important projects here on earth?”
Type 3: A 
statement
to discuss:
“Paying for space exploration is a waste of vital funding which could
otherwise be used towards more important projects here on earth.”
