Some people think that it is good for a country's culture to show
imported foreign films and TV programmes. Other people think that it
is better for countries to make their own films and TV programmes
instead.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
With the popularity of streaming services, cable TV, and cinema, people can
view foreign TV shows and movies. Though such entertainment features
foreign values and a different way of life, some believe this is still good
overall for their country’s culture. Others, however, disagree, claiming their
country should produce its own entertainment for its citizens to enjoy.
In many places, people enjoy popular movies and TV series from foreign
countries. Some say this benefits their culture as their people can gain much
from these shows, such as language ability, knowledge of various cuisines,
and even business ideas. Another benefit is that citizens may better
appreciate their own culture once they have seen the cultures of others.
Some people, for example, realize the importance of their culture’s focus on
the family once they learn how the elderly are treated in TV shows from
other countries.
Nevertheless, some critics believe it is best to create their own programs.
One reason is to prevent tainting their culture with the hubris of others. For
example, many liberal Western shows portray casual sex and even cursing as
a natural part of life, negatively influencing the youth in many countries.
Another worry is that impressionable young people might reject their own
culture in favor of another. Sadly, that is happening in many places already.
In my view, there should be a mix of both local and foreign entertainment in
the country. Locally made shows can not only result in employment, but also
highlight the country’s culture, making the youth proud of their heritage.
However, for a nation to progress, its people must be aware of what life is
like around the world, and imported films and TV are a step towards
achieving this. 
To sum up, a country’s citizens must watch both local and foreign TV.
Citizens and governments should thus support this endeavour accordingly.
