left varicocele (due to occlusion of left testicular vein)
endocrine effects: may secrete EPO (polycythaemia), PTH (hypercalcaemia), renin, ACTH

radical nephrectomy for confined disease
in disseminated disease, recent studies have shown a survival advantage for nephrectomy prior to interferon-alpha
