Do m ost people in your country learn English?

Yes,  everyone has to learn at the least the basics of English at 

school,  although you can choose to learn a different language when 

you get a bit older.  So not everyone in my country speaks English; 

but m ost people und erstan d  at  least a little bit.

Have you studied any other languages?

Which language do you fin d  easiest?

I studied Spanish for a year at school.  I  really enjoyed learning it, but I 

found it difficult to learn two languages at once, so I gave it up to focus 

on English.  Now I  am   a bit m ore confident with my English,  I  think I 

will  go back to Spanish.  I  found it a lot harder, but I  like  a challenge!

Do you think it is important to learn English?

I think that learning English is an im portant part of my education, and it 

is beneficial for everyone to know at least a little bit of English. W hen 

you travel anywhere, o r if you m eet people from  o th er countries, then 

English  is one o f the  m ost com m on  languages th at people will speak.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start learning a fo r- 

eign language?

T he best way to learn any language is to be im m ersed in it -  so I would 

recom m end  spending  som e  tim e  in  the  country  so  th at  you  are  sur­

rounded by the language. Sum m er schools can be a great way of doing 

this. Y ou have lessons so you learn the basics of the language and you 

stay w ith  a host family who will  mostly speak in  their native  language 

to you,  so you get plenty o f practice.
