1. Computers are electronic machines which make cal­culations. They can make very long and complicated cal­culations. Computers perform calculations quickly and ef­ficiently. 2. Electronic machines are able to perform cal­culations quicker than man. This ability of computers is especially important in case of complicated calculations. 3. In order to get information from the computer the ini­tial data are put into the machine. The computer process­es the data and puts out the needed results. 4. Modern TV sets are filled with different electronic devices. 5. On the control panel there are small lamps and other devices which give light signals in case of a fault. Besides, when a fault occurs the operator can hear a sound signal. 6. Thanks to the light signals the operator knows where the fault has occurred and can replace the faulty device.

7. If the railroad track is not in a good operating condi­tion, an emergency situation may occur and the traffic has to be stopped. 8. The central power stations supply rail­ways with electricity. 9. On suburban lines the number of trains is changed according to traffic requirements.
