Carrying out the role of the
HR professional
How HR professionals carry out these roles de-
pends on the context in which they work (the culture
of the organization, the types of activities it carries
out and the requirements of senior management),
their skills and disposition and, importantly, the
values they adopt. They will be affected by ambigu-
ity and questions on the status of the profession and
what is involved in being a professional. All this
demands competency in a number of areas and
requirements to adopt certain behaviours.
