Multiparadigm languages. As discussed in Reference [MMN3] other programming
perspectives like procedural, functional [Wik87] and constraint programming [FB92]
have advantages for certain kinds of applications. It should be possible to combine all
these perspectives into a unified perspective. The resulting language should not force a
choice of one of the perspectives, but they should be integrated in a consistent way.
BETA supports procedural programming and to some extent also functional
programming. The Leda language [Bud95] is a new proposal for a language supporting
a number of perspectives.
