U.S. Constitution
The Constitution of the United States has been the supreme law of the nation since 1788. Drafted at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, it calls for a government of limited and delegated powers. George Washington was chosen to serve as president of the convention by the 55 delegates, who represented 12 states. The delegates drafted the document and sent it to the Congress of Confederation for approval. It was then sent to the states for ratification. All 13 states had ratified the Constitution by May 29, 1790. The First U.S. Congress drafted 12 amendments, from which the states ratified 10. Those 10 amendments became known as the Bill of Rights.
Activity 2b
Objective: to give freer practice in talking about and comparing government structures. Ask PP to work in groups and discuss the questions and find similarities and differences between the structure of government in Uzbekistan and the USA using their tables to help them. When PP are ready, organize a short presentation. Ask a spokesperson from each group to report to the class. Remind PP that they should not repeat everything that the previous group has said, but can say ‘We made the same points as the first group. But we also said that…’. When the first group reports, don’t let them give everything on their list, but just allow them to mention two or three points.
Suggestion: If you think your PP need more practice with the Present Passive, you could do Grammar Exercise 3 here if you didn’t do it in Lesson 2, or assign it for homework.
VI. HOME WORK:

Write a leaflet about your English club. Include the emblem you prepared in Lesson 1. Write when the constitution was adopted. Describe the membership card. Include the list of officers it has and what they are responsible for, which you prepared in Lesson 2.
