Bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry

1. Overall scale and distribution

In February 2008, there were 888 enterprises in bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry, with 10,200 employees, a year-on-year growth of 17.79%. The total assets value reached 10.2 billion yuan, up by 35.29% on a year-on-year basis. The total indebtedness was 5.4 billion yuan, up by 45.49% on a year-on-year basis. In November 2008, there were 967 enterprises with 11,300 employees down by 7.62% year-on-year. The total assets value reached 12.6 billion yuan, up by 27.09% year-on-year. The total indebtedness was 6.2 billion yuan, up by 26.75% on a year-on-year basis.

2. Production and scales

The total output value of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry reached 2.887 billion yuan in February 2008, up by 30.91% on a year-on-year basis. The cumulative output value was 28.538 billion yuan in November, a year-on-year increase of 39.76%. The total output kept a very fast growth. The sales value of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry stood at 2.695 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 31.23%. The cumulative sales value was 26.766 billion yuan in November, a year-on-year increase of 39.01%. The sales-output ratio of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry reached 93.35% in February and increased slightly to 93.79% in November. The industry made 1.012 billion yuan of manufactured products in February, up by 18.12% on a year-on-year basis, and increased to 1.516 billion yuan in November, up by 20.93% on a year-on-year basis.

3. Costs and expenses

The sales costs of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry in February 2008 reached 2.266 billion yuan, up by 30.97% on a year-on-year basis. The cumulative sales costs reached 22.945 billion yuan in November, up by 40.73% on a year-on-year basis. The sales expense in February approached 790 million yuan, up by 17.52% on a year-on-year basis. The cumulative sales expense in November was 652 million yuan, up by 29.67% on a year-on-year basis. In February 2008, the management expenses and financial costs of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry were 910 million yuan and 380 million yuan respectively, up by 25.68% and 26.04% on a year-on-year basis. The cumulative management expenses and financial costs in November were 685 million yuan and 285 million yuan respectively, up by 24.56% and 38.19% on a year-on-year basis.

4. Profits

In February 2008, the cumulative profits of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry reached 120 million yuan, up by 36.45% on a year-on-year basis. In November, the cumulative profits were 1.238 billion yuan, up by 47.76% on a year-on-year basis. In February 2008, 131 enterprises or 14.75% of all the companies suffered losses. In November, the cumulative number of enterprises in the red was 99 or 10.24% of all the companies. Both figures were declining. In February, the total loss reached 20 million yuan, up by 22.82% on a year-on-year basis. In November, the cumulative loss stood at 47 million yuan, up by 9.88% on a year-on-year basis.

5. Operation performance

In February 2008, the product sales revenue of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry grew at 31.23%, down by 4.75 percentage points on a year-on-year basis. In November, the product sales revenue grew at 39.01%, up by 4.67 percentage points on a year-on-year basis. In February 2008, the value-added ratio of capital maintenance was 125.42%, down by 2.57 percentage points on a year-on-year basis. In November, the ratio became 127.41%, up by 1.85 percentage point on a year-on-year basis. In February 2008, the asset-liability ratio of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry was 52.87%, up by 2.99 percentage points on a year-on-year basis. In November, the asset-liability ratio was 49.22%, down by 0.95 percentage point on a year-on-year basis. In February 2008, the net amount growth rate of accounts receivable was 28.91%, up by 2.12 percentage points on a year-on-year basis. In November, the rate was 21.31%, down by 5.16 percentage points on a year-on-year basis.

6. Production and sales by region

In 2008, Zhejiang created 4.852 billion yuan output value of bamboo, cane, palm fiber and straw products industry, accounting for 17% of the industry's total output, the highest in the country, up by 13.67% on a year-on-year basis. The total output value of Shandong was 4.6 billion yuan, accounting for 16.12%, up by 55.11% on a year-on-year basis. The total output value of this industry was relatively large in Fujian, Hunan, Guangdong and Guangxi. The total output value and sales value were small in Chongqing, Heilongjiang, and Inner Mongolia. In this year, Hebei ranked the first in China in sales-output ratio of 100.1%, followed by Shanghai, Jiangsu and Jiangxi. The ratio of Guangdong was 82.07% as the lowest in China. Sichuan, Chongqing and Heilongjiang had a relatively low sales-output ratio.
