SYLLABUS FRAMEWORK FOR ENGLISH

IN ACADEMIC LYCEE, NON SPECIALIST STREAM AND ENGLISH IN PROFESSIONAL COLLEGES




The syllabus provides a three year comprehensive general English proficiency course for those who have already studied English in secondary school. The syllabus leads to an examination close in level to the internationally recognized Cambridge University Local Examination Syndicate’s First Certificate in English.




I. LISTENING

LISTENING: YEAR I




Listening 1: Developing general language skills. On the basis of the listening text there are activities to develop control of individual words, phrases, structures, intonation, stress, etc.
The listening texts will be:
words;
sounds;
short sentences (3-5 words);
longer sentences (5-7 words);
short dialogues: greetings, thanks, arrivals, departures, likes, dislikes, weather, book, food, habits, etc.
short jokes (3-5 sentences).


The texts will be accompanied by exercises to train recognition of:
sounds
grammatical forms
words and phrases
stress
intonation


Listening 2: Developing listening skills. Using short semi-authentic texts as a source to develop listening skills


Skills to be developed


I. guessing the meaning of unknown words
II. predicting
III. identifying main ideas
IV. identifying details
V. identifying the speaker’s purpose
VI. identifying the speaker’s mood
VII. identifying the organisation of the text
VIII.identifying relations between parts of the text
IX. distinguishing between fact and opinion
X. understanding inferences
XI. handling repetition, hesitation, false, etc.
