Women's Day

  • March 8th is celebrated as International Women's Day in Uzbekistan. On this day men of all ages and status show their love and respect to women, give them flowers and presents.

Teacher's Day

  • October 1st is celebrated as the national Teacher's Day.
  • In Uzbekistan the Teacher's Day is marked as a red-lettered day. Such events as festive performances, parody show, morning performances and concerts are held in schools and universities on the eve of the holiday… A lot of graduates arrange the meetings and greet their teachers on the 1st of October.

New Year's Day

  • New Year's Eve and New Year's Day are also celebrated by Uzbek people with great enthusiasm. In every family a New Year tree is decorated and a feast is prepared. Outdoor fetes take place, too. Various entertainment programs are broadcast on TV.

Kurban-Khait

  • Among the state holidays of Uzbekistan there are many religious ones. They are celebrated according to the Muslim lunar calendar. In the Soviet times these holidays were banned in Uzbekistan. But after the country became independent, these holidays were legalized and by now they have acquired really nation-wide character.

Ramazan-Khait

  • Ramazan-Khait is a holiday of moral purification and spiritual revival. This holiday comes after 30-day fast and falls at the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. During these days it is a custom to commemorate the deceased, to visit and help the sick, lonely and poor.

Uzbekistan works to prevent misuse of Ramadan donations

  • “Money flows need to be made as transparent as possible … (and) shipping tainted money out of Uzbekistan has been growing more and more difficult,” political scientist Valery Khan said. “The government has taken adequate steps. One was passing the Law to Combat Corruption and Money Laundering not long ago.”
  • During Ramadan, Muslims not only fast but also traditionally donate to those in need. Since extremists have attempted to take advantage of this generosity, the government is monitoring charities.

CELEBRATING RAMADAN EID IN UZBEKISTAN

  • The President of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, has signed a resolution "On Celebrating the Ramazan Hayit Holiday" which declares Wednesday, August 31, 2011, as the date of the non-working day off public holiday for the upcoming Ramazan Hayit (End of Ramadan) holiday
  • Earlier mis week (25-Aua-2011). President Karimov had signed another non-working public holiday resolution, the resolution "On Moving the Days Off in Connection with the Celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Uzbekistan's Independence On September 1st" which declared the as one-off non-working public holidays in Uzbekistan.

ABOUT INDEPENDENCE DAY

  • About Independence Day Uzbekistan officially known as the Republic of Uzbekistan is called in native Uzbek language as “O‘zbekiston Respublikasi”. Uzbekistan celebrates its Independence Day on September 1st of every year. Uzbekistan got its independence from Russia in September 1, 1991 after many years of suppression. Russia conquered Uzbekistan in the late 19th century and set up a socialist republic in 1924. In Uzbekistan, Independence Day celebrations are marked with huge, state celebrations and blanket TV coverage of traditional dancers and singers singing nationalist songs. Independence Day is a national holiday in Uzbekistan Independence Day is the major and the most revered holiday in Uzbekistan. The country gained independence on August 31, 1991.
