Guys, in previous lessons we talked about plagiarism and we discussed how bad it is not only for study process, it is a bad example for others to do the same. Let me remind you: plagiarism is when someone copies other person’s writing or, words, or music, and says it is his. As long as we understand how notorious it is we must do all the best to avoid plagiarism. The first what we need is to know some words we will use in todays’ lesson. First: Protection. You know guys, we all protect ourselves from something, it is doing important things not to have problems after. For example: a teacher writes—
I wash my hands to protect from myself from microbs.
Children nneed adult’s protection. In the first sentence we had a verb form PROTECT, in the second a noun form PROTECTION
The second word is fraud A teacher writes--- I think I got a fraund on my computer, because it says I won a million of dollars. So froud, guys, it is a cheeting information, the information which is not true, ok?
Let’s go to another word. Submit. We submit, or hand in our papers, essays applications to be seen by others. For example, when you enter Universities, you will submit your documents to be checked. Let’s write an example: I want to submit my essay via internet. If you have some other examples, that wouold be great.
And we move on the other task we should do, which is talking about avoidance of plagiarism. We have many ways to get out of this unpleasant condition. First. Do you think it is great to use great people’s ideas, but not be in embarrassing situation? Then you should use comma before and the end of the sentence you are quoting. Like: “Keep your eyes on the stars, and your feet on the ground” Teddy Roosevelt.
But you should also know what is common knowledge and use it without hesitation. You can feel free and not be afraid that you would be accused of plagurism. Like life is difficult. Things are getting deerer. This common saying or knowledge, and nobody can claim that it belonged to him.It is something that everybody used to say, and don’t know who first began to say so. I know it is difficult to know when it is a quotation and where it is a common knowledge. But that is why we are studying and learning, right?
Also , it is important that you keep track, ot in other words write down who is the author of this or that saying. Then when you us it, you won’t have problems whose are these words.
You could write at the end of your essay or assignment the information whose ideas or words you used. That would be wonderful and you would not find yourself in difficult situation, because you did everything to be careful and avoided plagiarism.
You know, once, I had two students, who when I gave an assignment, they gave the same, or maybe resembling works. I knoew one of them cheated. And I guessed who copied from whom. So I put a bad mark to a good student and a good mark to a bad student. When they got their marks, the good student was angry at the bad student. But he couldn’t say anything.
