History

The history of the Golden Globes dates back to 1944, when many movie stars starred in Fox Studios, and a small number of foreign journalists chose the best ones for 1943. The positive outcome of the first ceremony predetermined the development of the award as an independent alternative to the prestigious Academy Award.Despite its independent and unbiased evaluation of film and television achievements (unlike the Oscars), over time, the Golden Globe Award became an Oscar nomination. If you look at the whole story of the two awards, it turns out that more than two-thirds of the Oscar-winning films have previously won the Golden Globe.A few years later, in 1950, the nomination for Best Non-English Film appeared - the first winner was the Italian film Bicycle Thieves.

In 1952, the main difference was between dramatic and comedy and / or music, Best Picture of the Year. A similar difference affected the Best Actor and Best Actress nominations.Since 1956, the Golden Globe has been awarded in various categories for film and television.The first broadcast of the ceremony took place in 1958, but until 1963, only Los Angeles television viewers saw the award.

The first official Golden Globe Awards were held in 1954 at Century Fox. After that, the award became an annual event, and its presentation took place in various locations over the next decade. Around the same time, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to establish a special award in recognition of his great contribution to the film industry. In particular, Walt Disney received such an award.The awards ceremony was usually held by journalists from the aforementioned association. However, in 1958, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. took the stage. The audience enjoyed the performances so much that the following year’s ceremony was entrusted to them.In 1963, the Miss Golden Globe Award was introduced. That same year, Eva Six and Donna Douglas received awards for their contributions to film and television, respectively.

To date, the winners are determined by voting, with more than a hundred members of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Los Angeles-based journalists' association working for foreign publications).

In early 2006, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association decided to establish an award for best animated film. The first such award was presented in 2007 at the 64th Golden Globes in the animated film "Cars".
