Prepositional Nouns

There are many different nouns that carry specific prepositions to consolidate their meaning. They are called nouns dependent prepositions. Again, there is no dialing rule that says that a certain type of noun will take a dependent preposition, although they usually follow a noun. Moreover, there are many possible combinations. For example:

• 
  He displayed cruelty towards his dog.
  
• 
  She had knowledge of physics.
  
• 
  The trouble with Jack.
  
• 
  21 is the age at which you are allowed to drink.
  
• 
  Bolt made another attempt at the world record.
  
• 
  The police held an inquiry into the murder.
  

In some cases, two prepositions can belong to the same noun. This happens when you want to avoid repeating a noun: e.g.

1. 
   When you take a book from or return book to a library the librarian makes an entry in your library card.
   
2.
