Language note
liberal
= either economically liberal, for example favouring free markets over
state intervention, or socially liberal, for example favouring social change, rights
for minorities, freedom of speech, etc. In this section, the term means socially
liberal, in contrast to the term
reactionary.
emotive language
= designed to create a strong emotional reaction in readers,
such as disgust, shock or sympathy
reactionary
= extremely right-wing or conservative, and is strongly opposed to
social change
yob
= a young hooligan (British English slang)
