Anomalous verbs. There are four verbs in OE which are sometimes named irregular. To avoid associations with modern irregular (non-standard) verbs, we prefer the term “anomalous”. Two of them are suppletive (the forms of which are based on different roots): bēon / wesan (to be) and ʒan (to go); and two verbs are with irregular paradigms: dōn and willan. The paradigms of these verbs contain many individual forms because they go back to the time when “abstract” grammar was not enough developed.
