Tour guide: 
Now, not only do we have lots of h istorica l architecture here in the town of Tanbridge, we also
have a rich variety of fam ous residents. Of course, everyone has heard of the fam ous w rite rs Jim 
Harman, Anna C ollins and Ian Cheriton, o r I. H. Cheriton, as he is b e tte r known. And they have a ll 
lived in o ur s m a ll tow n! In fact, Anna Collins, the celebrated romance novelist, spent a ll her life in 
this town. She lived by the town square, where there is a plaque to com m em orate her. She died in 
1968 and you can see her gravestone in Tanbridge C em etery. You may know Anna from her most 
fam ous w ork, 
The P ride o f Angels,
 
which won num erous awards and fo r which she was a run ne r-u p
fo r the Herald Prize in 1950.
James Harm an also lived here between 1975 and 1990. A bestselling h o rro r w rite r, he got many 
of his them es fo r his haunting novels from th is very to w n . He passed away a year a fte r leaving 
Tanbridge and although he is n 't buried in the town, we do have a statue of him on the roundabout 
as you ente r the town.
Now, I. H. Cheriton has been the Poet Laureate fo r three years and he lives in Tanbridge today. 
His home is the red house by the river. Not only a poet, he has also w ritte n ten novels that have 
topped the book sales c h a rts . He always does a lot of w ork fo r local charities and is quite a gem in 
th is town.
Lastly, another famous resident of Tanbridge is Sylvia Daniels. She grew up in Tanbridge and went 
to the local comprehensive here. You can see her childhood home ju st across the river by the post 
office. Now I am sure you a ll know her fo r her latest film
Planet Dust,
 
which has ju st reached num ber 
one at the cinema box office. But she w asn't always an actress. Before she headed fo r Hollywood, you 
could have seen her waiting tables in The Dorage Restaurant here in town! She often comes back to 
visit as her fam ily a ll s till live here. If you're lucky, you may even catch a glim pse of her!
