Lesson aims: to develop students’ understanding of common features of a good language learner in the second language learning, to improve vocabulary related to language learning, to raise awareness about what kind of characteristics a good language learner should have

1.Introduction(15 minutes)
Warm up
|
Brainstorming (5min)
In order to revise the previous themes’ vocabulary Teacher asks students to stand in a circle. In turns they should tell all the learned vocabulary concerning to the theme “Language acquisition”
Warm up. (5 min) Teacher sticks pictures on the blackboard and asks participants to guess new theme by looking at the them. Then teacher asks some brainstorming question in order to know students’ background knowledge about the topic.
What is language learning?
Who is a good language learner?
What skills do good language learners need to possess?
Do you think that you are a “good” or “poor” language learner? Why or why not?

Students need to think fast and give a word associated with the topic to remain in the game.
Students look at the pictures that are on the blackboard, make predictions and answer the questions. Students will give their own opinion.

2.Main part
(60 minutes)

Activity 1. (7 min)
Teacher divides the class into 2 groups.
Objective: to enable students to gather topic vocabulary themselves
Activity 2. Pre-listening activity. Matching. ( 7 min)
It is a preparation task for the listening activity. The teacher shows the vocabulary in the power point presentation.
Objective: to acquaintance the topic vocabulary of the listening task
Activity 3. While-listening activity.
Multiple choice question ( 8 min)
Teacher plays the audio about Simon talking about how he learned several languages in a variety of different ways.
Objective: to practice listening for specific information
Activity 4. Post-listening activity. Filling the gaps ( 8 min)
Teacher distributes the handouts for filling the gaps with the suitable words.
Objective: to enhance students’ grammar
Activity 5. Pre-reading ( 15 min) Jigsaw reading
Teacher divides the class into 4 groups and gives a part of a information about Adam who learned 7 languages during his career.
Objective: to develop listening for a gist, to improve reading for general information
Activity 6. While-reading. A case study
( 15 min)
Teacher distributes the next part of the text which is about strategies used by Adam.
Objective: to develop reading for general information

In groups students make a diagram or cluster in order to identify the characteristics of a good language learner.
Students match the definition (a-h) with the vocabulary(1-8) individually. Then they will check the answers with their partners.
Students listen to the audio and choose the best answer.
Students complete the sentences with the words from the box individually.
Students read the texts in groups and a participant from each group retells the information for other groups and, then they will change their places.
In groups students read the text and highlight the most important strategies that Adam used in his learning languages process. Then students try to identify what kind of problems Adam encountered in learning languages and how he managed to deal with them. They will discuss the features of an effective language learner with the whole class.
