Alexey Podkovyrov (1889-1957)

In 1918, Podkovyrov graduated from the Teachers ' Seminary in Aktobe, Kazakhstan. He received his art education at the Rozanov Art Studio in Tashkent (1924-1927), and continued it at the Penza Art School, where his teacher was I. Goryushkin-Sorokopudov (1927-1929). His friendship with young Uzbek artists such as N. Karakhan, U. Tansykbayev and the older and more experienced of them A. Volkov, O. Tatevosyan played an important role in shaping Alexey's aesthetic views. Podkovyrov took part in many exhibitions in Tashkent, Moscow, and after 1947-in Almaty.

Ural Tansykbayev (1904-1974)

Tansykbayev studied at the Art Studio of N. Rozanov at the Tashkent Museum of Art (1924-1928), then at the Penza Vocational School of Arts and Pedagogy, where he was accepted directly into the final class. He participated in many exhibitions in Uzbekistan, Moscow, and abroad and received numerous government awards. He established very close ties with the museum, which received many of his early works from the late 1920s and early 1930s (the museum's collection is regarded by many as the best collection of paintings and drawings of the period). Tansykbayev died in Nukus, while organizing a solo exhibition.
