• I have been making music for 8 years already: I play the piano, I try to compose music myself, I learn how to record notes and process sound with the help of computer programs. In the classroom at the music school, we get acquainted with the life and work of various composers. Not so long ago I got acquainted with the music of the English composer Benjamin Britten, which I really liked. She is close to me in spirit. I have not yet heard all the works of this composer, but I was interested in his personality, his life. I'm going to continue to get acquainted with his work. And in this work, I tried to talk about what I met today.

Britten in Russia

• In England, Britten is a national hero. The golden age of British music has died down too long - 300-400 years ago, and the long-awaited appearance in England of a world-class composer guaranteed him the boundless love of the nation. A quivering feeling arose among compatriots and thanks to the nature of his music, avoiding sound extremism, shocking avant-garde manifestations. Benjamin Britten is a very hardworking composer with impeccable artistic taste.
• Britten has never been popular in Russia. However, subtle musicians such as Dmitry Shostakovich or Svyatoslav Richter, who were friends with the composer, knew the true value of his talent. Now CDs with the composer's music have been released in Russia, lectures have been given, scientific articles have been published. The composer wrote 15 operas that are as significant for the British as the operas of Tchaikovsky and Glinka are for us. And some of them - "Peter Grimes" or "The Turn of the Screw" - have already become opera classics.

Although these two English musicians are separated by a considerable distance - three centuries, they have a lot in common. Benjamin Britten re-edited "Dido and Aeneas" - the best opera of his distant predecessor - and wrote the witty "Variations" and fugue on the theme of his other stage music - "Abdelazer". They speak and write about Britten as an English composer, the first after Purcell to receive world recognition.
