Nowadays, online education is becoming more common in many countries. What are the advantages and disadvantages of learning online?
|
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Write at least 220 words.
The world recently has experienced something that was not seen since WW2 – a situation that covered the whole world. The lockdown due to the Covid-19 outbreak transformed nearly every person in the world – in one way or another. These changes did not leave study life alone, as is obvious, because education has always been considered a group activity. The vast majority of the world’s students typically learn in groups at schools, colleges and universities. So when the governments forced lockdowns all over the world, the education as we know it had to be changed in order to guarantee the safety of students and teachers alike. Fortunately, thanks to modern advances in technology education did not come to a halt. This is when online education became a mainstream out of necessity. Of course it was present for some time before 2019, but most people had been regarding it as “doubtful” at best. The obvious drawbacks include lack of face-to-face communication between pupil and mentor – that chemistry which causes the “a-ha! Now I got it!” moment in students. Online education is more official – it only covers the topics and assignments of the course. Students often have less opportunity to exchange ideas, support each other’s knowledge and collaborate to achieve a common goal.
It does not mean that online education is all bad. The most obvious advantage of it is the safety – you cannot contract illness from the Internet. Also, students save a lot of time and money on road when they do not have to take transport to and from school.
