To determine and control the fuel level in cars, a special sensor is used,
which is installed in the fuel tank. It is a potentiometer with an engine

mechanically connected to the axis of the sensing element, the angular
displacements of which are converted by the sensor into an electrical signal.
A potentiometric sensor is a variable resistor to which a supply voltage is
applied, its input quantity is the linear or angular movement of the current
collector contact, and the output quantity is the voltage removed from this
contact, which changes in magnitude when its position changes.
Potentiometric sensors are designed to convert linear or angular displacements
into an electrical signal, as well as to reproduce the simplest functional
dependencies in automatic and automatic devices of a continuous type.
