Thanks so much to the dozens of you who came to the “ECA New Year’s Day”. It was a terrific way to start the year and we hope it is going well for all of you so far! Here’s some quick updates, mostly public safety related this week:
Edgemoor Neighborhood Patrol
We’ll be meeting shortly with the vendor we have chosen for our Edgemoor Neighborhood Patrol to finalize start-up, days, hours and other operational details of our new Edgemoor Neighborhood Patrol. Patrols will begin in February. After they commence, we will organize an ECA Town Hall so we can brief everybody on how it works and introduce the officer(s) and their supervisors to the neighborhood. Watch for further updates on the launch!
Crime Alert – Residential Burglaries - From the Bethesda Police District
Starting in December and apparently now continuing into January, the 2nd District (Bethesda, Chevy Chase, North Bethesda) is getting slammed with burglaries. there were twenty four burglaries in December and currently we have handled almost 15; seven occurred in Delta 2 and are associated with the burglary trend that was hitting the Town of Chevy Chase. Aside from that trend we have three other trends that are either starting or have appeared in other districts and are now migrating in to 2D.
E4 (White Flint area, Old Georgetown Road area) yesterday there was an attempt burglary on Flanders and one on Old Fields (D3), two black male 20-30, one taller than the other, wearing hoodies and dark clothing. Suspects first knocked on the front door of the residence and then went around to other doors knocking; upon no one answering proceeded to try and force entry via a side window but got scared off by the victim. Within an hours time the suspects did the same to another address on Old Field; no entry made there either. E2 Burglary on Landon involves a black male 20-40, 5'10?-6'00, large upper body, possible vehicle is a dark blue Chevy with Maryland tags that involve possibly a combination of 8DFS92. A navy blue car was seen at two additional burglaries one of which was on Singleton. E2 Also in Edward 2 was a burglary on Overhill Road in which an unknown male was seen entering a white car that was backed into the driveway. The victim observed the tags to be similar to Pennsylvania plates with blue, yellow and white with a partial plate of 540T. The vehicle is noted in the attached crime alert from 3D and apparently the car has been seen at burglaries in Frederick and Howard Counties as well.
Please report all suspicious persons and vehicles to Police 301-279-8000 or 911.
Reminder: Free home security surveys by Officer Stroman 240-876-1277 by appointment to assess security risks of your residence.

Copper Downspout Thefts
A neighbor on Moorland Lane had her copper downspouts stolen in broad daylight and saw a large bronze pick-up truck leaving the premises as she arrived. Copper is the new gold when it comes to thefts and fencing. Typically it is extracted from the plumbing of abandoned or foreclosed homes but it now appears downspouts in occupied homes have the attention of thieves as well! The neighbor who was the victim has reported it to the police, and also knows of a similar incident in our neighborhood. Keep your eyes open.
