. When I read this study, I imagined spending two to four weeks in a Gravitron at my local
amusement park, the large, upright barrel that rotates at 33 revolutions per minute, creating a centrifugal
effect equivalent to almost 3 g’s before the floor drops out. Given that the average life span of the fruit
fly is fifty days, this amounts to more than fifty human years in the Gravitron. Those poor flies!
