Language categories: Students learn to make finer distinctions in their word choices if they understand the relationships among words, such as synonyms, antonyms, and homographs. 
Figurative language: The ability to deal with figures of speech is also a part of word-consciousness (Scott and Nagy 2004). The most common figures of speech are similes, metaphors, and idioms.
Developing A Vocabulary Learning Strategies
 
Skehan (1989) states that the area of learner strategies is still in an embryonic state.
He was referring to the general field, but the fact that his statement holds especially
true for vocabulary learning strategies is strikingly illustrated by the lack of any comprehensive list or taxonomy of strategies in this specific area.
One reason why vocabulary learning strategies have not been discussed muchas a classis precisely because of this lack of an existing inventory of individual strategies. In order to address this gap, this section will attempt to present as complete a list ofvocabulary
learning strategies as possible. It will then attempt to classify them according to one of the current descriptive systems
