Dear Parents and Community Members,
Greetings! I trust that your summer vacation was relaxing and filled with time for enjoying friends and family. We are excited for a wonderful and exciting start to a great school year.
In our efforts to encourage students to explore their interests and talents, we are offering a variety of speakers to come to Flint Hill and share their careers, talents and hobbies. Students in Grades 1-4 will sign up to attend these sessions during their lunch or recess. The primary objective of the Brown Bag Lunch allows for exposure to variety of topics beyond the scope of the regular curriculum. This, in turn, may stimulate new interests and inspire in some students a desire to do an independent investigation in that area. Therefore, we are looking for volunteers to share their professional expertise, talents, hobbies and experiences with our Lower School students. This program has been extremely successful due to the enthusiasm of the greater Flint Hill community. We look forward to working with new and continuing volunteers for this coming school year. The following questions may prove helpful in considering and planning a Brown Bag Lunch presentation:
• What are the key concepts inherent in my hobby, interest or field of study?

• How is it studied?

• What inspires people to get involved in this area?

• What are the rewards?

• What are some of the real problems I encounter?

• Why is this field important?

• What “tools of the trade” can I display and share?

• What are some ideas for follow-up study?

If the idea intrigues you, please complete the Community Resources Survey attached to this week’s newsletter and return it to your child’s teacher. If you feel you are not able to participate at this time, but know of a friend, neighbor, colleague or other family member who may be willing to share, I encourage you to pass this along.
