Check types – Com-check, Efs-check and t-check: Brokers usually pay lumper fees with different types of checks. Common type is Com-check. How it works: The Broker issues the reference number of the check and the carrier gives it to the driver. Driver gives it to the receiver and we are done.
Layover fee: 10 hours of detention is counted as layover fee. The standard layover fee is 150$ Sometimes you can also negotiate it.

Other Dispatch Terminologies
Seal: Seal is sort of a lock for the trailer when the trailer is already loaded. The shipper is locking the trailer to ensure that the driver won’t open the trailer while on the road. If the shipper puts the seal only the receiver must break it. Breaking the seal might cause us money so be careful with it.
Dead Head Origin (DH-O): Dead head Origin is the distance between the location of the driver and the shipper.
D ead Head Destination (DH-D): Dead head Destination is the distance between the receiver and the place where we want to go. For example: if we want to go to Dayton OH and our load is going to Vandalia OH our DH-D is 12 miles (check the map).
F/P loads: Full or partial loads. Sometimes brokers offer partial loads where they don’t seal the trailer and we can get some more partial loads. However, we don’t use partial loads as they pay less and there is a risk that we might not find any more partial loads to the same destination.
Dock: Dock is the place where we put our trailer and get loaded/unloaded. (see the pic#3)
LOAD/UNLOAD TIMING - First come first serve (FCFS) and by appointment: Shipper/receiver sometimes load/unload the driver by appointment or it will be fcfs which means who comes first will get the service. If loading/unloading is by appointment the detention must be counted after 2 hours of the appointment. If loading/unloading is fcfs then we should calculate the detention after getting a dock.
