Section 18 
1.  Detention shall be for a minimum of one day and a maximum of one year. 
2.   Detention may be imposed for a period of maximum one year and four months in cases where the 
period of one year is exceeded as a result of an increase in sentence due to concurrence, a 
repeated serious offence or by reason of the provisions of Section 44. 
3.   Detention may in no instance exceed one year and four months. 
Section 19 
Section 13 shall apply mutatis mutandis to the offender sentenced to detention or default detention. 
Section 20 [Repealed as of 01-01-1999] 
 
Section 21 
The length of a determinate term of imprisonment and of detention shall be set in terms of days, 
weeks, months and years, and not in parts thereof, in the judgment. 
Section 22 [Repealed as of 01-01-1999] 
Section 22a 
In special circumstances, the Head of the Ministry of Justice may order, in the interest of state security, 
that custodial sentences shall be enforced outside the Kingdom in Europe.
