April 2014 Report
April has been another cold wet month with spring somewhere out there. But people are becoming interested in their properties and permits have been issued at a rapid pace. Several more discussions of pending permits have been conducted with residence and architects on up and coming projects, so it appears we are starting to cycle with more activity. As CBA ZEO, I have spent several more hours researching deeds and maps on pending appeals and approval of permits. I have also been researching the need and cost for the CBA to cover expense for a liability policy for the ZEO position. An estimate at this time is about $250 annually. Further discussion on this matter will be presented to the Board of Governors.

The Crescent Beach Zoning Board of Appeals has posted a hearing date of May 6, 2014 for the variance requested by Judy Cleary and Robert Barbaro to be held at the East Lyme Police Department at 6:30 PM.

No Superior Court date has been established at this time. However a complaint of numerous illegal activities has been forwarded to the CBA ZEO. The basis of the complaint is not an item which comes under the prevues of the Zoning Enforcement.

Due to recent activity and project approvals and inspections, I have made more than biweekly contact at town hall thru assessor office and building office as to any reported construction or other new projects. Several residents have contacted me as to various matters that may have been overlooked by this office. We have been on top of work related issues in Crescent Beach area, however if something does get by; please contact the CBA ZEO or town building officials of any unauthorized works. I am also making it known that when construction starts, completion needs to be done. Due to the uncommonly cold and wet winter, I have given construction workers more time on outside projects.

Coastal Flood Plans have changed and State of Connecticut DEEP has been more restrictive to what can and cannot be done in these areas. Make sure your planning agents, architects, design staff work closely with you on new items to prevent unneeded expenses.

****AS PER THE REGULATIONS, NO PERMITS HAVE BEEN ISSUED IF ANY OUTSTANDING CBA TAXES OWED. THE LIST USED IS THAT SUPPLIED TAX COLLECTOR.
